Description
1972 Chevrolet El Camino Custom
We are listing this vehicle under consignment for a long-time acquaintance. In Your Garage has personally inspected this vehicle. According to the VIN, this is a verified El Camino Custom that came with an L48 350 cubic inch, 4v motor. We believe it retains the original block, intake manifold, and 350 transmission but has been modified with aftermarket Headman headers, aluminum heads, valve covers, HEI, and a brand new Edelbrock, 4bbl carb. VIN verifies this is a Van Nuys, Los Angeles, CA build and is believed to have never left CA.
As far as we know, it is impossible to verify a true 72 SS via a VIN or cowl tag unless it was a 454 SS. Experts may want to comment below. One indicator this may not be a true SS is that it does not have the remote mirror option, which to our understanding, was stock on all 72 SS El Caminos. That said, this El Camino Custom is nicely dressed as an SS including SS hood and emblems down to the taillight trim. It features a positraction, 12-bolt, 3.55 rear end.
Per the cowl tag, this El Camino was originally orange flame on the upper and lower body but has been repainted in factory-correct pewter silver. The paint finish is nearly-unmarked (see photos of minor blemishes below), a high-quality paint job reportedly having been completed about 7 years ago. According to the cowl tag, this car would have featured the tan fabric bench seat, which has been upgraded to the SS look.
Other features include hidden windshield wipers, power brakes with disc in the front, and power steering. This car once featured AC but the compressor and hoses are not present. The car comes with a service manual, car cover, and some documentation from the previous owner.

Hi IYG Community,
Thanks for the bids. This car is currently at our shop and we’ve confirmed that everything works outside of the vent fan and the window regulator for the vent window needs repair – a simple fix. The paint is as nice as it appears in the pics. Please feel free to ask questions on this thread and we’ll answer whatever we can. Good luck!
