Description
1981 Chevrolet L81 Corvette
One owner, fully documented, 54k original mile L81 Corvette. This rare, 4-speed manual Corvette has spent its entire life in Southern California. Manufactured in the Bowling Green plant which boasted a new, state-of-the-art paint facility utilizing enamel with clear coat as opposed to Vettes produced in the St. Louis plant that utilized lacquer paint.
Only 5,575 of the 40,606 ‘81 Vettes produced, came equipped with a 4-speed manual.
As a California car, this Vette is equipped with the stainless steel exhaust manifold weighing 14 lbs less than the standard cast iron manifold and reportedly allowed for better exhaust flow.
The L81, 190hp 350ci V8 was the only engine available in 1981. This car features its original drivetrain. The only known modification is an upgraded intake manifold added when repairs were made to address a worn cam lobe. Receipt for work is included.
A full history of service paperwork is included with this car including the original dealer invoice, build sheet, as well as many other original documents.
Paint is reportedly all original outside of a respray to the top half of the rear bumper (paperwork included).
Well bought I would say, congratulations.

I will but at 71 fulfilling an item on my bucket list and my first corvette this might be my last but I’ll keep looking for a bargain.
@Loki
Congrats! Hope you’ll keep our site on your list of favorites for the future!
Thank you for the info but I found my dream car and purchasing it !! 1988 35th anniversary Edition
@Loki @BigTanks
Thanks for the questions. As far as we know, the car has no mechanical issues. It drives and shifts well. Hopefully, the driving video on the listing can provide some insight. Of course, there’s nobody who would ever guarantee a 41 year old car, but this car runs extremely well and we would have no hesitations about driving it as you wish.

@Loki, I’m certainly interested in the answers to your questions, especially road worthiness to drive it to Florida from California in the heat of the summer.
My mistake 41 years old lol
Is everything in working order ?? Gauges AC , power windows heater defroster headlights , tail lights , no overheating problems , rough idle , shifting or clutch problems , engine miss , smoke coming out tailpipes . Oil leaks. I know I’m asking slot but the car is 31 years old even with just 54k miles. If I bid and win I’m flying out from Florida and driving it back so I feel taking a risk without being able to drive and inspect it. Don’t want to break down in the middle of no we’re in the middle of… Read more »
Thank you I scrolled and saw them.
@Loki Thanks for checking out the Vette. Pictures of the engine bay are included. Please scroll through. Also, if you’re viewing on a laptop, you can put your cursor over any picture and get magnified views. Or, use the pinch function on your mobile device to expand the pics. You’ll see how nice the engine bay looks. Let us know if you have additional questions.
Why no pics of the engine bay ??
@maverick3zx Thanks for the interest. We shipped a car a few days go to the Dallas area. Based on that, we would estimate around $1600 to get this car to you. Happy to assist with the process. We can help find a shipper and keep the car in covered storage until transport arrives and assist with loading as well. Hope that helps!
have any idea what shipping would be to 35954

Thanks @Bidtopper
@BigTanks Just getting back to you regarding your previous questions: AC and heat both work. Stereo works as do the gauges. There is no cruise control on this car. Hope that helps!

One more note to the IYG community, the auction starts on July 6th. I have asked our IT department to address the countdown clock issue.
@BigTanks Last I checked they do. But, I’ll double check all those things and get back to you. The car is currently at our storage facility so I may need a few days, but I’ll make sure. Now, I just need to find an old cassette… 😉
OK, thanks. First of all, do things like the A/C, heat, cassette player, and cruise control work as they should? Do all the gauges work? Thanks.
@BigTanks thanks for the note. happy to answer any questions.
Is it possible to ask questions yet, or do we have to wait 5 days?
Looking forward to this one.
Please let me know when this is ready for auction.
thanks, Bud
